  • A passport is an official document which entitles its holder to cross borders and stay abroad. It is also a proof of Polish nationality and identity of the holder of the document based on the data it contains.

    A passport is an official document in the form of a book containing 40 visa pages and a personalized page. The size of the document is 125 mm+/- 0.75 mm x 88 mm +/-0.75 mm. A book produced by the Polish Security Printing Works consists of the following parts:
    • Cover;
    • Endpaper;
    • Personalized page;
    • Glossary;
    • Visa page;
    • Microprocessor.

    The cover is crimson in color and has a characteristic haircell texture. The words Paszport, Passport, Passeport and Unia Europejska, Rzeczpospolita Polska, with an image of an eagle wearing a crown placed in the middle of the front page are hot embossed and gold foil stamped.

    At the bottom of the cover there is a symbol for biometric passports.

    The personalized page is a multilayer card consisting of paper and polycarbonate foil.

    The personalized page is printed on both sides using the offset technique. The offset guilloche elements are made with iris printing. In the background there is microprinting: Rzeczpospolita Polska - Republic of Poland - Republique de Pologne. There is a two- color drawing of the Wind Rose on the page containing a holder’s personal data, which is visible only in UV light.

    Additionally, the page with the personal data includes elements that have been made in silk-screen printing, with the name  Rzeczpospolita Polska written in optically variable ink and stylized RP initials visible only in UV light.

    In the top left corner of the page there is a partially metallised hologram.

    Pages 4-5 contain a glossary of terms used throughout the passport,translated into 17 languages of the European Union (except for Polish, English and French, which are used throughout the passport).

    The visa pages are printed by means of an offset technique on a security paper incorporating a multitone watermark and security thread. They vary graphically, which means that the graphic design of every page is different. The number of each page is  an element of the graphic design. On the guilloche lines you can find a microprinting:Rzeczpospolita Polska, Republic of Poland, Republique de Pologne.

    Visa pages 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17, 19, 20, 23, 25, 26, 28, 31, 33, 34, 37, 38 include graphic elements which are only visible in UV light. On the first page there is a black number of the document, which consists of two capital letters and seven digits, glowing in UV light.
